What is Special Education in CA?

Special education is defined as: specifically designed instruction, at no cost to the parent, designed to meet the unique needs of a child with disabilities. The goals of special education are similar to the educational goals for general education, but the techniques for attaining the goals are different. Children who have learning differences often require more intensive and individualized instruction and more repetition. Special education gives instruction and supports that are specially designed to meet the unique needs of a child whose disability affects his or her educational performance or ability to learn in a regular classroom.
